Hunter x Hunter has remained one of the most popular anime shows since 1999. It started off strong with the 1999 version that lasted until 2001, and its 2011 reboot only increased the fanbase. It's earned its spot as one of the best anime shows to watch, even though it's been on hiatus for a while.

The series boasts memorable storylines and characters. Being as popular as it is, there are plenty of inside jokes among fans, as well as memes in which they express their love and frustration with the show. Whether it's explaining Hisoka's weird obsession with Gon or Kurapika not picking up his phone, there are plenty of memes to share and laugh at.
10 Explaining Nen Can Be Complicated
For new or non-fans, explaining nen and how it works can be a little confusing. Hardcore fans try to describe it, but eventually the person they're explaining it to will get lost.
Fans starting the series will understand how nen works with time, but those who don't watch the show might not ever quite get it. The explanation is long and often complicated. It's better to just watch the anime or read the manga to understand.
9 On Hiatus…For How Long?
This one might sting a little, but some fans can laugh at how long they've been waiting for an update. Many anime and manga go on hiatus, and don't release when they will return. Hunter x Hunter has been put on hiatus multiple times, and currently rests there. Fans just don't know when the next chapter or a new episode will be released.

It also doesn't help that the creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, doesn't have any social media to interact fans and gives them any kind of update. At this rate, some fans will settle for a filler chapter or episode just to tide them over.
8 Prepare For An Emotional Rollercoaster
For anyone thinking this show looks fun and non-violent because of innocent-looking heroes like Gon and Killua, they're in for a surprise. This show has the perfect blend of action, comedy, and drama that will make fans laughing one minute then crying the next.
It's quite the emotional rollercoaster and fans can't properly describe how the show makes them feel. If anyone needs a good blend of genres to begin watching anime, Hunter x Hunter is the perfect show to start with.
7 Bungee Gum Explained
In case anyone forgot how Bungee Gum works, Hisoka is always there to remind you. It's been a running joke that he always has to explain how it works, and the answer is pretty obvious. It doesn't matter if anyone even asked him about it — Hisoka will provide this information if he feels like those around need to.
6 Killua Has A Split Personality
Killua might look sweet and nice, but make no mistake: this boy can kill without batting an eyelash. He ripped out the heart of a prisoner and held it up for them to see before they died. He set a man on fire, killed Bodoro to make himself feel better and get out of an exam, and has assassinated a lot of people. Killua can go from a normal-looking boy to a cold and ruthless killer in an instant.

It's obvious he cares for his friends, but even they can't keep his bloodlust side from popping up. It's a good thing he's on their side and not their enemy.
5 Hisoka Has Been Creeping People Out For A Long Time
As if people didn't fear clowns enough. Hisoka has given anime fans another reason to fear them. Whether fans read the manga, watched the 1999 version, or saw the 2011 version anime, Hisoka has always been creepy. The way he acts around his enemies sends shivers down the spine. When he's around Gon, even hardcore fans don't know whether they should laugh, cringe, or be downright creeped out.
Even with all this creepiness, there's just something about Hisoka that makes him a popular character. Fans either love him or hate him, there's no in-between.
4 Killua Is A Disney Princess
Considering his rough upbringing and all that he's been through, Killua does have some elements of a Disney Princess. He was trained at a very young age to be an assassin and has been risking his life since age 3.
It's amazing that he's a good guy, and isn't as psychologically damaged as some other characters in anime. He's managed to overcome the damage that's been done to him and use it for the greater good.
3 Hunter X Hunter Logic Is Logical
Hunter x Hunter logic is only logical to its fans. As sweet as Killua looks, it cannot be ignored that he's an assassin and has killed a lot of people. Hisoka, as good-looking as he is and as shy as he claims to be, is an unhinged clown that's a little obsessed with Gon. Neferpitou might look like a girl, but it's unknown what their gender is.
The logic won't make any sense to non-fans, but fans will always have something to giggle at amongst themselves.
2 Hisoka Might Be On The Wrong Show
Hisoka is already an extreme character, but his even more extreme reactions might remind fans of another series. Some Hunter x Hunter fans are reminded of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure at times when Hisoka is front and center. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is not just known for its stories and epic fight scenes, but also the extravagant and flamboyant looks of its characters and their over-the-top reactions.
If a crossover were to ever happen, Hisoka would fit right in. He might even get too excited at the thought of fighting many strong warriors that appear in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
1 Gon's Dad Is Gone
This has been a long-running joke among Hunter x Hunter. Most anime characters tend to have absent or dead parents, or one parent that rarely appears. However, Ging's absence in Gon's life is just different. It doesn't help that Gon sounds exactly "gone." The joke is rather old, but laughs will always be had when this is brought up.
It took a long time for Gon and Ging to reunite, and fans were happy to see it finally happen. Though fans may never know anything about Gon's mother, they can take a little comfort in knowing that Gon finally got to see his dad.
