Eiichiro Oda's One Piece is one of the greatest manga of all time. However, that does not make it perfect and fans are more than welcome to share any kind of opinions they may have. Whether it is about a certain arc or character, fans are entitled to their opinions no matter how harsh it may be.

Some of these opinions can even open one's eyes to things they missed in the story or even where it may go in the future. As with any piece of popular art, millions of people are going to have their own unique viewpoints on all aspects of the story.
10 More Smoker
Vice Admiral Smoker was once one of the greatest threats to the Straw Hats. He would continually hunt them down and came close to catching them on more than one occasion. In Pre-Timeskip One Piece, he was one of the few men that might have been able to kill Luffy's dream.
Due to how awesome his character was he quickly became a fan favorite. However, during Post-Timeskip One Piece he is no longer much of a threat nor does he play a large role in the story. Fans see him every now and then but he has unfortunately fallen to the status of a side character.
9 Thriller Bark Is The Weakest One Piece Arc
Even a storytelling wonder like One Piece is bound to have a few arcs that fall flat. According to one post, Thriller Bark is one arc that did not live up to its potential. Oda attempted to mix horror elements with comedy and action to decent results. The pacing of the arc is good but several characters just roam around in the beginning without much of a goal in mind.
The best thing to come out of the arc was Brook, the skeleton, musician, swordsman that has more than proven his worth as a member of the Straw Hats.
8 The Davy Back Fight Arc Is Underrated
There is a surprising amount of love for the funny and action-packed Davy Back Fight arc. It is placed in between the Jaya/Skypiea and Water 7/Ennis Lobby arcs, two of the best in One Piece history. This means that is frequently overlooked by many fans as just a fun bit of fluff.

In actuality, Oda is at the height of his power in terms of story and art. All the Straw Hats were challenged in some way and Luffy even had one of his best fights in all of One Piece history so far. The Davy Back Fight is an arc the encapsulates all the best qualities of One Piece while also being massively fun.
7 Vivi Should Not Join The Straw Hats
One post stated that Vivi, while being a cool character, should not join the Straw Hats. This is a fairly controversial opinion as Vivi more than proved herself during the Alabasta arc. She would be a great addition to the crew but even Vivi herself realized that her duties lie elsewhere. She does have a kingdom to help run and Luffy is far too much of a threat to the World Government.
If she did join then her kingdom would be put in jeopardy once again and this time no one would be there to help. Vivi had her time with the Straw Hats and she has done a decent amount to help them from afar.
6 Power Levels Are Non-Existent
There have been many characters over the years that claim to be the strongest in the One Piece world but the actual strongest is still unknown. The closest one has to measuring them is Bounties and those shift after every arc.

The strength of a character is never truly known till they are shown in battle and even then things can change. A character like Enel was very powerful but he could not overcome Luffy's rubber-based abilities. There is a very high chance the strongest character has not even been introduced yet.
5 The Story Has Decreased In Quality Since The Timeskip
Several posts on Reddit discuss how the story has changed since the time skip. Some users stated that the story has been dragging and is no longer as captivating as it uses to be.
One Piece, as with any manga, is going to have its ups and downs. The Post-Timeskip story started off slow but has since picked up and is at one of its most action-packed arcs. One cannot blame certain fans for losing track of the story for a bit then coming back to it. Some arcs seemed like preludes to others and are best enjoyed when one can watch or read them in full.
4 Oda Is A Bad Writer
This is a very bold claim that one user posted. Juggling multiple plot lines, characters, themes, and settings is not easy work. Even the best of writers can get bogged down in the details or become overwhelmed by the sheer weight of the world they have created.
Oda is not the best writer in the world but he is far from the worst. The heart of One Piece is his writing and while it has had hiccups over the years, it is constantly improving. Long-standing questions are getting answered and there is a feeling that the best is yet to come.
3 Sanji Always Gets The Short End Of The Stick
No one can deny that Sanji has taken many beatings over the course of his time as a Straw Hat. The master chef and skilled fighter is not a weakling but he has lost several battles. This is mostly due to his own personal convictions such as never hitting a woman.

Still, Sanji has taken more beatings than most Straw Hats and one can wonder if it is because he is being pushed to the side. The Straw Hat crew is bigger than when he joined and other characters need the time to shine. Hopefully though, Sanji will be able to kick some major behind during Wano and remind fans why he is one of the coolest characters in One Piece.
2 The Marineford War Arc Is Overrated
Without a doubt, the Marineford War arc is one of the most explosive in One Piece history. Yet some redditors find it to be overhyped and while the fights were great they were not the best in the series. Some also felt that Ace's death did not hit as hard as it should have.
While the arc is not perfect, it had the tough job of bringing together several major plot lines and laying the groundwork for the next few years of the series. No one stated that Marineford was a bad or terrible arc, it is just not as amazing as some other fans said.
1 Jaya/Skypiea Is The Best Arc
The Jaya/Skypiea arc is a fan favorite of many redditors, with some even saying it's the best One Piece has to offer. This arc introduced Blackbeard and his crew, Dial technology, Klabautermann, a form of Haki, and the concept of people from the Moon. Suffice to say, this arc was a huge one and upped the epic levels of the series to new heights.
While the debate of the best arc is ongoing and everyone has their own opinion, Jaya/Skypiea is a very strong contender.
