Retro shooter fans have a lot to be excited about this weekend. Not only is 3D Realms holding its annual Realms Deep stream (aka Boomer Shooter E3), but it kicked off the event by announcing a brand new throwback shooter in the form of Cultic. Developed by Jasozz Games with publishing duties handled by 3D Realms, the game sports a pixelated art style reminiscent of the recently released Prodeus.
I could try to give you a rundown of Cultic's plot and setting, but why bother? Better than just showing off a trailer and hyping things up, accompanying the announcement of the game was a free demo on Steam. I'm still in the process of downloading it as I'm typing, but you can try out Cultic this very second. Talk about badass!

If you've been following the development of Cultic, you may be surprised to see it being "announced" again. Indie developer JasozzGames has been teasing the title for a few years now on social media. It seems 3D Realms took notice and stepped in to assist with development (similar to titles like Ghostrunner and Kingpin). However the story went, I'm happy that the publisher has been putting the spotlight on excellent-looking shooters.
At the moment, there doesn't seem to be any plans for bringing Cultic to consoles. It would be absolutely perfect on Switch, but things are still early into development. Initial reception on Twitter is really positive, so I don't have any doubts we'll be hearing more in the near future.
