Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan has revealed 99% of PlayStation 4 games are playable on PlayStation 5. (Thanks Wario64!)
Previously Sony had stated “the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable” on the PlayStation 5. Now, The Washington Post have revealed more information from their interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan.
While only referenced in passing, Ryan stated that out of the thousands of games tested “99 percent” of PlayStation 4 titles can be played on PlayStation 5. According to Wikipedia, there are 2867 PlayStation 4 games. Therefore, toughly 2838 PlayStation 4 games would be playable.
Ryan further explained that he expected the PlayStation 4’s life span to have four more years in it. “The PS4 community will continue to be incredibly important to us for three or four years,. Many will transition to PS5, we hope if we do our job well, but tens of millions will still be engaged with the PS4.”
During the PlayStation 5 showcase, the PlayStation Plus Collection for PlayStation 5. This brought 18 well-received PlayStation 4 titles to those with a PlayStation Plus subscription on the upcoming next-gen console.
In earlier news, Ubisoft confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will not be backwards compatible with PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3.
