For many Nintendo fans, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was one of their first introductions to the world of 3D gaming, as it became one of the best-selling Zelda titles of all-time. Along with Super Mario 64, these games from Nintendo set a standard that numerous developers have tried to replicate over the following years. While many fans appreciate Ocarina of Time for revolutionizing the gameplay of the series by using 3D, one fan decided to reimagine the game in a 2D design.
Known on Reddit as Mr0range_crafts, the Zelda fan showcased a new piece of art based on the Ocarina of Time. Using a cube diorama, the designer recreated a scene from the iconic game. Included in the design are amazing sprites of Link, Navi, and Zelda along with detailed trees and other scenery. Using these finely crafted elements, the creator managed to portray the scene in a classic 2D Zelda art style.

Mr0range_crafts provided some details regarding the process of making the diorama. They revealed that the design used a combination of acrylic, paper, and cardboard to help pull off the 2D effect. And while Mr0range_crafts created the diorama and the casing, he had another artist AlbertoV aka dya_games design the sprites for the project. This isn’t the creator’s first time creating retrogaming dioramas, they have made other dioramas based on classic franchises such as for the Rayman series.

The Legend of Zelda community on Reddit has been loving this redesign created by Mr0range_crafts. With over 2,300 upvotes, fans commented on how the diorama captured the nostalgia of the original game while also giving it a unique twist. While fans continue to debate whether 2D or 3D Zelda is better, this new art from the creator made some on Reddit wish for another remake of Ocarina of Time, except this time in 2D.
Ocarina of Time was released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 and gave players the opportunity to control Link for the first time in 3D. Set in the kingdom of Hyrule, the developers created an immersive world for players to explore. The game even received a remake called Ocarina of Time 3D with improved visuals on the Nintendo 3DS. However, it would be interesting to see the developers at Nintendo attempt to remake the game in 2D as well.
It’s exciting to see fans reimagine classic titles in new ways such as with Mr0range_crafts cube diorama. With a number of other 3D Zelda games available, such as Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild, it will be interesting to see if the creator decides to make more dioramas from the series in the future.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is available now on Nintendo 64.
