There are more puzzles to solve than boss fights in the game, which makes the latter even more memorable. There are plenty of crafting materials for upgrades and projectiles to learn before facing Nicholas, the Captain of the Guard and the right-hand man of Vitalis — the Grand Inquisitor. Here's a guide to better prepare the player for the intense boss fight.
There's so much action in this rather short chapter of the game. Before going into the courtyard of Château d'Ombrage, it's recommended to explore every corner—from Rodric's forge down to the lone grave—inside the castle, to get all the crafting materials. Prepare at least 20 Ignifer and 20 Exstinguis upon reaching the courtyard, where Melie and her brother, Arthur, are arguing.

Light up the nearby braziers and collect the crafting materials on the rampart before joining Arthur to secure the pit. Explore the inner courtyard for more crafting materials before turning the wheel Rodric has fixed. Arthur will ask Amicia to light up the brazier of the blue section's rampart. Light up the brazier and climb up the ladder. Don't push the brazier just yet. Look for more crafting materials and upgrade a skill or more on the nearby workbench. Doing all this before the cutscene will not only give Amicia enough ammunition, but will also reload the crafting materials in the inner courtyard, which can be collected afterward.
The fight with Nicholas begins after Arthur distracts him from slowly chasing Amicia. Hugo will join the fight against him, which means Amicia can borrow her brother's main weapon, Imperium, to have a chance at winning. Nicholas will start chasing the de Rune siblings around the inner courtyard.
Run and hide from Nicholas behind the wooden boxes and short towers. Collect crafting materials along the way. Throw Exstinguis at the brazier at the middle and the torch stand behind him to free the rats. Use the Imperium to lure the rats towards him.
Nicholas will rise up with a flaming arm and sword. It scares the rats away and lights up the braziers near him. It's critical for Amicia to switch from Exstinguis to Imperium as fast as possible. Run around to put out all the lit-up braziers and torch stands to free more rats. Finally, throw Extinguis on his flaming arm and sword. Quickly cast the Imperium on him before he lights up the sword again.
In frustration, Nicholas will light up his entire upper body and his sword with fire. Run away from him and hide. Once again, put out all the brazers he lights up, so the rats can attack him. Quickly throw multiple Extinguis at him as he turns his back, so Hugo can cast the Imperium at him.
