Fortnite Season 4 is officially underway and, while the game has crossed over with the Marvel universe before, this is the first time an entire season has been all about the comic book giant’s most beloved heroes and villains, including Wolverine, Dr. Doom, and the mighty Thor himself.

And while these various characters are being dropped into a world that’s not their own (one that’s no longer completely flooded as it was in Fortnite Season 3), Epic Games has made some changes to certain parts of the map to further tie in with Marvel; locations that will be more than recognizable to fans of the comics, films, or TV shows.

Firstly, players will instantly notice that the lobby area has changed to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, which players will jump off of to enter matches, much like in Lego Marvel Super Heroes. It makes sense for this to serve as the season’s lobby, as it has acted as something of a home base to the Avengers in other media.

It can also be spotted in the distance mid-game, hovering somewhere in the north-west area, but there’s no way to reach it once on solid ground. Maybe Epic will make it possible to reach it later in the season, so players can use it as another battleground.

S.H.I.E.L.D. has also placed patrol stations throughout the map, which can be found by following the blue smoke they shoot into the air. Players can acquire loot from these locations, but they are being guarded by Stark Tech robots that need to be defeated first.

Towards Loot Lake, the mountains are now littered with broken Sentinels, the machines created to hunt and exterminate mutants. Good news for the likes of Wolverine and Mystique, but how and why they were destroyed is a mystery. It wouldn’t be surprising if they became a new threat later in the season for players to deal with.

Lastly, Dr. Doom has unsurprisingly taken over a portion of the map, with his own castle set up where Pleasant Park used to be. And this POI is anything but pleasant, boasting a far more eerie and threatening atmosphere befitting of the Latvian dictator. Laser guided cameras are dotted around the place and, apparently, Doom himself can sometimes be spotted wandering about.

Players can probably expect more changes to come as the season progresses, especially with devourer of worlds Galactus teased to be on his way. Considering what happened the last time Thor and Galactus went up against each other, things will probably turn out okay.

What’s really disappointing, though, is that, due to the ongoing lawsuit between Epic Games and Apple, mobile players are forced to miss out on this season, with their only option being to get the game on another platform.

Fortnite is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
