All of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighters So Far

Pirahna Plant In Smash Cropped

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate managed the impressive accomplishment of gathering every fighter from the series into one title, and even introduced new ones at launch. This helped make Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a huge success, and led to the base game including 69 unique characters – not including the Mii Fighters or echo fighters.

Fans were also excited to see Super Smash Bros. Ultimate receive post-launch support, which has added a total of 11 new fighters to the game thus far, with number 12 still to come. While many fans are fixated on what the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be, the current roster of DLC characters is already strong and has some very unique fighters.

Piranha Plant – Released on February 1, 2019

Piranha Plant was the first downloadable character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, available for free to any fans who purchased the game before January 31, 2019. The character is from the Super Mario series, and is a heavyweight fighter that has some strong anti-air tools in its moveset. The character also enjoys a unique set of moves while controlling largely like an archetypal heavyweight, and was an interesting start to the game's DLC offerings despite being regarded as one of the worst characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Joker – Released on April 17, 2019

Joker from Persona 5 was the first DLC character released in the first Fighters Pass, and has been very well received among the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community. Joker is a medium-weight character that is quick and agile for the class, while also enjoying a dynamic moves. He specializes in hitting combos on enemies before quickly getting out of range, and has particularly strong grabs. However, he does require players to adapt to their opponents' playstyles, so fans will want to know a lot about the game's cast of fighters before trying to learn Joker.

Hero – Released on July 30, 2019

Hero encapsulates a number of different protagonists from the Dragon Quest series, although they are all referenced as Hero. Hero is the first swordfighter DLC character added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it introduced a unique Magic Points system that sees him able to perform a range of special attacks. The character also has a unique ability in that all of his special moves have a 1/8 chance of being a critical hit, which doubles its damage and increases the move's knockback. At the time of release, the character was very popular, so much so that he was eventually banned from some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments.

Banjo-Kazooie – Released on September 4, 2019

Banjo-Kazooie is a tag-team fighter similar to Duck Hunt. They are considered a heavyweight all-rounder, as while the fighter's moves and physics aren't anything special, it also doesn't have any particular weaknesses that other players can exploit. This makes playing the character largely about winning neutral fights as well as punishing the enemy fighter when possible. Banjo-Kazooie does also have some of the cooler easter eggs in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Terry – Released on November 6, 2019

Terry from the King of Fighters series is another heavyweight fighter that focuses on melee and footsie play. He has strong damage numbers that give him solid KO options, as well as good combo potential. Terry also has strong punishers and only gets stronger as he reaches a high percentage thanks to his Super Special Moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, his limited survivability options make getting knocked off stage particularly dangerous.

Byleth – Released on January 28, 2020

Byleth is available in both male and female form, and is another swordfighter from the Fire Emblem series – though many fans still point out that only the male form of Byleth received an amiibo. However, Byleth does stand out from their fellow Fire Emblem characters by being a ranged powerhouse with some very potent combos. Byleth is also rather slow for their weight class and has poor frame data, which can make playing them require a lot of care given any misstep leaves Byleth open to punishment.

Min Min – Released on June 29, 2020

Min Min kicked off the second Fighters Pass, brought to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from ARMS. She boasts a unique style that utilizes the great range of her strikes, as well as being able to switch her attacks up via different arms. This makes Min Min a very aggressive fighter that can put pressure on her opponents with solid zoning. However, it also gives Min Min a difficult learning curve that makes sense given she is a very unique fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Steve – Released on October 13, 2020.

Minecraft's Steve was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate along with alternate appearances for Alex, a Zombie, and an Enderman. Steve has an incredibly unique kit with some capabilities that aren't present anywhere else in the roster. This gives the character a steep learning curve, but Steve has great close-quarters abilities as well as solid stage control and edge guarding to compensate. Steve is a solid addition to the game, and has led to many fans hoping for more Microsoft characters to show up in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Sephiroth – Released on December 22, 2020

Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate late last year and is one of the most unique swordfighters in the game. He has great range, high damage numbers, and solid projectiles that can make it very difficult for opponents to even approach him. However, he is vulnerable to opponents that apply a lot of pressure and can be found lacking if enemies get too close. His damage is undeniably impressive though, with Sephiroth being able to deal 59,000 percent damage with a single hit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Pyra/Mythra – Released on March 4, 2021

Pyra and Mythra are both from the Xenoblade Chronicles series, and allow players to switch between them characters at any point during a match. Both characters utilize a sword, but they have entirely different move sets, strengths, and weaknesses. The dual nature of the characters makes the pair a very versatile combo, but can make them very difficult to learn – and make mistakes while playing. However, both Pyra and Mythra are capable fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate once players have taken the time to learn.

Kazuya Mishima – Released on June 29, 2021

Kazuya is the most recent DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, hailing from the iconic Tekken series. His character focuses on baiting enemy moves before punishing them thanks to devastating combos that differentiate him from his other fellow heavyweights. However, he is also susceptible to combos, so players have to pick their opportunities wisely. Either way, Kazuya has proven to be a great new fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it will be interesting to see what the final addition has to offer.
