Amazon’s New World Hits 200k Concurrent Players On Steam

New

If you’re not yet familiar with Amazon’s up and coming massive online RPG, New World, you may want to jump on the bandwagon, as this game is showing some real promise already. New World is not yet officially released, as that is set to happen on August 31 this year.

But starting on July 20, New World has been in its beta phase. It’s a closed beta that people can become eligible to participate in if they sign up. People who sign up will be randomly selected and granted access. However, if you pre-order the game, you will automatically see the New World Closed Beta appear in your Steam library. The closed beta servers are available in North America, Europe, Australia and Brazil.

Considering the newness of this game, it’s a bit surprising to see that it has just hit 200,000 concurrent players on Steam. This seems to suggest that New World is heading in a positive direction for Amazon, and it could be their first massively successful game.

The news surrounding New World wasn’t all positive, though. Players were reporting that their Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards were failing when playing the beta for this game, causing widespread concern. However, Amazon responded to this by stating the following:

Hundreds of thousands of people played in the New World Closed Beta yesterday, with millions of total hours played. We've received a few reports of players using high-performance graphics cards experiencing hardware failure when playing New World. New World makes standard DirectX calls as provided by the Windows API. We have seen no indication of widespread issues with 3090s, either in the beta or during our many months of alpha testing.

Despite this, Amazon wanted the players to feel as safe as possible, so they proceeded to release a patch that caps frame per second on the menu screen. It’s clear that they are, at the very least, listening and taking in feedback from players, so hopefully that trend continues through the game’s official release.
