Animal Crossing: New Horizons took the world by storm when it was released right at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The game provided fans a way to connect with one another while also being a perfect contrast to sitting inside one's house or apartment all day. The game has also managed to maintain a very large base of players more than a year after its release, with players still getting to know their villagers and customizing their island getaways. However, there are some villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that players are better off just getting rid of or just not taking at all.
Of course, what villagers players want to have on their islands is largely a matter of personal taste, but there are some villagers that are more largely regarded as being unfavorable or just plain annoying. For players who already have one of these villagers and want to get rid of them, there are ways to push villagers to move out in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but it can take some time and effort. However, with how annoying some of the game's villagers can be, the process can be more than worth it.

Rodney
Rodney is a lazy blue hamster that is so reviled among certain members of the game's community that there is an entire subreddit dedicated to hating on him. This is because he has a smug personality type and a more aggressive personality. This leads to him constantly talking down to other villagers and the player while criticizing them over just about anything he can think of. With how annoying this makes Rodney be around, it's a shame that he got a place in the game while other more popular Animal Crossing villagers are still missing.
Pietro
Pietro may be one of the scariest villagers that players can have take up residence on their islands. For any players who don't like clowns or creepily painted face-paint, Pietro is definitely a villager to avoid. However, there are many players that like Pietro for how unique his appearance is as well as his generally positive and sweet personality. For any players who want Pietro, there are guides on how to make him as happy as possible in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For other players, however, it is a better idea to just skip on him as there are far fewer unsettling villagers available with great personalities.
Eloise
A large reason many players enjoy Animal Crossing is for its relaxed atmosphere and carefree playstyle. However, Eloise seems designed specifically to destroy that relaxed atmosphere by constantly criticizing everything around her. She criticizes the player, other villagers, items, and even the island itself almost all the time. this makes Eloise very difficult to have on one's island, as her negativity is just draining to be around. The only real positives about Eloise are that her house looks relatively nice and that getting away from her is a good use for Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Mario warp pipes.

Diva
Diva has a sisterly personality type, but it is frequently spoiled and comes off more as snooty because of how the rest of her personality pushes her to be arrogant. Diva is well known for bullying the player and other villagers, which makes her just feel mean when the player interacts with her. Diva does have one of the cooler houses in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, especially for any player who appreciates ancient Egypt. However, that is not nearly enough to make up for how poorly she treats everyone else on the island for no good reason.
Maelle
Maelle is best described as Animal Crossing: New Horizons' equivalent of a Karen. Not only does she have the signature hairstyle and unimpressed expression, but she also generally waddles around the island complaining and mocking people all day. This makes it very obvious why she is frequently at the bottom of popularity lists when it comes to Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers as she doesn't really offer players many positives for putting up with her poor attitude either. With all of that combined, adding Maelle to one's island is an easy way to ruin a new Animal Crossing: New Horizons playthrough.
Olaf
Olaf is one of the more unique-looking villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but this is ruined by his personality. His permanently angered eyebrows tell it all as Olaf has an extremely smug personality. This makes him constantly drone on and on about how wealthy he is as he talks down to anyone that he sees as below himself, which is nearly everyone. Not only does this make him not very enjoyable for players to talk to, but it also can get in the way of him getting along with other villagers on the island as well. Anteaters are one of the rarest villager types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but that may be for the better if it means fewer players end up with Olaf.
Limberg
Limberg doesn't fall too far behind Pietro in the race for creepiest looking villager. With his five o'clock shadow, weirdly pink cheeks, and stare like a dog eyeing up meat, Limberg can make any player feel weird when they run into him on their island at night. This is only made worse by the grumpy personality type that sees most conversations with him being something new that he wants to complain about, which makes it very unlikely Limberg will ever be anyone's favorite Animal Crossing: New Horizons character.
Hippeaux
Hippeaux follows closely in Olaf's footsteps as one of the most arrogant and rude characters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Not only does this include constantly bragging about his wealth, but also some very rude comments that he frequently makes to the player. This includes some really uncomfortable lines like telling the player that nobody can hear screams that come from his basement. Hippeaux just gives off the feeling that he has more secrets than most Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers have, and has a mean enough personality for those secrets to be frightening.
