Ant-Man 3 Director Announces Production Start With Horrifying Set Pic

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniadirector Peyton Reed revealed that the superhero sequel has officially commenced filming.Originally scheduled for a 2022 release, Marvel Studios' Ant-Man 3 is slated to premiere in 2023.

Written by Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty), Ant-Man 3 stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. Franchise newcomer Kathryn Newton (Freaky, Big Little Lies) will play an older version of Lang’s daughter Cassie. Jonathan Majors, who notably played He Who Remains in the hit Disney Plus series Loki, will portray the villainous Kang the Conqueror. Loki's season one finale revealed that Majors’ He Who Remains created the Time Variance Authority and was a version of Kang the Conqueror the whole time.

Reed celebrated the start of Ant-Man 3 filming by sharing an image of Cassie’s terrifying bunny doll on social media. "It begins. Day One – Principal Photography," said the filmmaker in the caption. Rudd’s Lang notably gifted the bunny to his daughter in 2015’s Ant-Man. The toy also appeared as an easter egg in the second film, and it appears that the bunny plushie will make an appearance in the upcoming threequel. Reed, who notably directed two episodes of The Mandalorian and 2000's Bring It On, helmed the first two films in the Ant-Man franchise.

The typically tight-lipped Marvel Studios has yet to share details on Ant-Man 3's plot. The film is looking to build off the success of Ant-Man and the Wasp, which earned positive reviews from critics and grossed over $622 million worldwide. Fans last saw Rudd’s Lang attend Tony Stark’s funeral with Hope and her resurrected parents in Avengers: Endgame. Ant-Man/Scott Lang was created by David Michelinie, Bob Layton, and John Byrne, and first appeared in 1979’s The Avengers #181.

Ant-Man 3 is one of several Phase Four Marvel Studios films that will premiere over the next two years. Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings will hit theatres this September. The 25th film in the MCU will seeShang-Chi (Simu Liu) attempt to take down The Ten Rings, a terrorist organization created by his villainous father Wenwu. Shang-Chi has garnered attention for being the first Marvel Studios film with an Asian protagonist.

After several pandemic-related delays, Chloé Zhao’s Eternalswill be released in theatres this November. The highly-anticipated filmwillfollow a species of immortal aliens who have secretly lived on earth for over 7000 years. These ancient giants are forced to reunite to protect mankind from a humanoid race called the Deviants. The loaded ensemble includes Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, as well as Game of Thrones stars Richard Madden and Kit Harington.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniais scheduled to be released on February 17, 2023.
