Apex Legends May Receive Cross Progression | Game Rant

With Apex Legends being so successful, it only makes sense for EA and Respawn to bring the battle-royale title to other platforms. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Apex Legends will be releasing on Steam and Nintendo Switch, as well as receiving a cross-play feature so everybody can play together.

While these releases are likely to bring in new Apex Legends players, the option to play on Steam or on the go with the Switch is certainly appealing to current players as well. Unfortunately, if a player opts to switch to a different platform, they’ll have to start over from scratch as the game doesn’t feature cross-progression, which would allow players to carry over all of their progress to another version of the game.

Back when the game launched in February 2019, while cross-play was planned, Respawn explained that cross-progression simply wasn’t feasible at the time. However, a dataminer believes they have found evidence that points to this feature being added in the near future. According to Shrugtal, who has previously leaked Apex Legends info in the past, files within the game contain code strings that they believe is the basis for a cross-progression system of some kind and is, at the very least, being tested by the developers.

The strings suggest that, if implemented, players will be able to transfer skins, charms, and other cosmetics to a different profile on another platform. Essentially, if a player wishes to switch from one console to another, they can do so without losing any of their progress.

It’s important to note that this isn’t an official confirmation. After all, the theory is that the feature is being tested and it’s always possible that Respawn won’t be able to find a way to make it work. Given its popularity, though, and the fact that it’s a feature in other games, including rival battle-royale Fortnite, its inclusion will undeniably generate some good publicity and may further help attract new players who don’t wish to commit to playing Apex Legends on a single platform.

As for when it could be implemented, Respawn would most likely ideally want it to coincide with the inclusion of cross-play, which is expected to take place this month. The Steam and Switch releases should also be happening this fall season, though we don’t have exact dates.

In related news, dataminers believe they’ve uncovered some new skins that will be added this month as part of Season 6, including a purple-tinted ‘Boosted’ skin for Loba.

Apex Legends is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
