Apex Legends Patch Nerfs Seer, But Not Enough

With every new season of Apex Legends comes another Legend to add to the game. Over the previous seasons, it has been a mixed bag of underpowered Legends like Fuse and Rampart to overpowered Legends such as Horizon and now Seer. While powerful characters like Seer change up the current meta and keep the game interesting, sometimes they need a nerf to balance their abilities. After Respawn recently added a patch that focused on nerfing Seer, some fans believe that the developers didn’t go far enough.

Added at the start of Season 10, Seer possesses a set of abilities that allows his team to collect a massive amount of intel before engaging in a fight. Known as the “Ambush Artist,” Seer’s Ultimate ability Exhibit lets him create a ring of micro-drones that let him and the rest of his team see enemy movements and gunfire while inside the Ultimate. In addition, his Tactical ability allows him to throw out a cylindrical shock wave that damages enemies and reveals their locations for a short time while also stopping revives and the use of shields and meds. These abilities coupled with his Passive that lets him detect enemy movements within a certain area while ADSing makes Seer a very challenging opponent to out maneuver in a fight.

In response to fan frustration regarding Seer, Apex Legends shipped a patch to nerf the Legend’s abilities. Some of the changes include reduced range of detection for his Passive ability along with removing damage and stun from his Tactical. Furthermore, his Ultimate now takes 120 seconds to charge instead of 90 seconds.

While many fans were glad that the developers attempted to patch the game, some felt that the update didn’t address all the problems with Seer. According to some players, one of the main issues with the Legend was his ability to cancel healing and stop revives. Additionally, others thought that while the reduction in range to his Passive was necessary, the duration of players revealed by his Tactical needed to be reduced as well.

The associate live balance designer for Apex Legends John Larson addressed the community regarding the Seer nerf. The developer was honest when he admitted that he and the development team “missed the mark” with the introduction of the new Legend. He acknowledged that some fans will probably be disappointed that the nerf doesn’t reduce the reveal duration of Seer’s Tactical. He went on to state that the developers are prepared to make more changes in the future if necessary.

Before this recent patch, Seer was one of the best Legends in Apex Legends. It will be interesting to see how these changes to the character end up impacting the game’s competitive scene. Time will tell if the developers at Respawn will need to go back and do more balancing to the Legend.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
