Apple Countersues Epic Games And Will Remove “Sign In With Apple” Option For Epic Games Account

It began with a very obvious attempt to circumvent the Apple Store policy and then a parody of Apple’s infamous 1984 commercial. Since then, the lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games centering around the popular Fortnite game and the 30% commission cut from the iOS store has raged on. The first major ruling of the case was something of a blow to Epic Games as it was found that Fortnite would remain off the app store, and now it’s Apple’s turn to strike back.

As reported via CNN, Apple has counter sued Epic Games. They accused Epic of “self-help and subterfuge,” saying they have only used the whole situation for what they call “commission-theft.” They allege the whole thing is just a way to circumvent having to pay the commission and has nothing to do with the ‘fairness’ of the cut, which is the crux of Epic’s argument. As an added exclamation to that, it was also confirmed from Epic Games that Apple will remove the popular “Sign In with Apple” option from Epic Games account starting September 11th.

The case will most likely go on for years, so it’s hard to gauge exactly where things will fall. As it stands now, it doesn’t look particularly good for Epic Games, but they seem dedicated to seeing it through so it could go any which way in the future. We’ll keep you updated.

Apple will no longer allow users to sign into Epic Games accounts using “Sign In with Apple” as soon as September 11, 2020. If you used “Sign In with Apple”, please make sure your email and password are up to date. https://t.co/4XZX5g0eaf
