Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Players Unlock New Step in Saint Denis Mystery

The Siege of Paris DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla has created an awesome mystery that players are struggling to solve. In the Siege of Paris map, there's a location named Saint-Denis with a church. Near this church is a trapdoor leading beneath the church to a very exciting location. It's an Isu Temple, previously seen in Assassin's Creed Unity, though it's blocked from access. Some hidden Isu writing nearby and within the church has led to an ARG, with Assassin's Creed Valhalla players recently making a breakthrough.

As Assassin's Creed fans who follow the games' various ARGs might know, Ubisoft loves to mix in real-world tasks alongside its coded messages and in-game. Given that the current ARG revolves around the church of Saint-Denis, some fans leaped to the idea that perhaps the real-world location from the game could offer up a clue. That intuitive leap has proved fortuitous, as a fan visiting that very church has discovered what could be a key clue.

Within the Saint-Denis Basilica, Reddit user RichardYing found a Ubisoft-planted posterboard with the Assassin's Creed Valhalla logo and a QR code. This QR code led to a previously undiscovered video. The first text within the video says "Basilica of Saint-Denis Secret Unlocked." What follows is yet more text written in the mysterious Isu language for ARG players to translate.

The resulting translation from the Saint-Denis Basilica QR code video has resulted in findings both frustrating and curious. It's frustrating, apparently, because the translated text is something ARG players had already discovered. It's a line of text already found in fan kits sent out as part of the Siege of Paris DLC's release. The translated text reads, "You are looking for what is part of you. I for what I am. How much are you willing to sacrifice?" The curious bit is that ARG fans believe there may be more to the clue than meets the eye.

Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed Valhalla ARG players are currently stuck wondering what the next step of the process is. After all, the clue granted by the Saint-Denis Basilica is something fans have already had for some time. Some believe that the end of the ARG was encouraging players to visit the Saint-Denis Basilica and that there's no more. Others hope there's more left to discover.

If this is the end of the current Assassin's Creed Valhalla ARG, it's understandably frustrating for ARG players. Obviously, the vast majority of people participating in the ARG and those following from home won't be able to visit the Saint-Denis Basilica. Everyone wants a solution that can be experienced in-game. But something is better than nothing.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
