Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla’s Director Is At The Helm Of The Dead Space Remake

A Star-Studded Dev Team For A Horror Classic

With the announcement of the upcoming Dead Space remake for next-gen consoles, there’s been plenty of speculation about what the remake may entail, who’s behind the project, and when exactly it’ll be releasing. Well, now we can answer one of those questions for sure – Dead Space’s director has been revealed!

Eric Baptizat is a veteran of several Ubisoft titles, having previously worked as the lead designer for Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. However, he’s probably best known for his most recent role before Dead Space, directing the critically acclaimed Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. However, recently he announced that he was leaving his team at Ubisoft to work on a mystery project at EA Motive – which we now know to be Dead Space.

The announcement that Baptizat is the director for Dead Space came from a somewhat unconventional source – rather than an official announcement by EA, the announcement came when Baptizat updated his LinkedIn account to show that he’s currently working on the title. However, it seems that Dead Space is a while away yet – Baptizat only joined EA Motive in April this year, meaning there’s probably not been a lot of time spent working on the game just yet.

The Dead Space remake has thus far attracted a star-studded development team – the creative director is another former Ubisoft dev, Roman Campos-Oriola, best known for his work as the creative director of For Honour, and former BioWare level designer Gary Stewart, who’s worked on every Mass Effect title since Mass Effect 2, will be handling level design. One thing that’s not very present, though, is the original Dead Space dev team – many of them have moved on to Striking Distance, a game studio that’s currently working on the sci-fi horror title The Callisto Protocol.

The remake of Dead Space has only just been announced – there’s no release date quite yet, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye out for!
