Award-Winning Disco Elysium Could Finally Be Coming to Switch and Xbox

From developers ZA/UM, Disco Elysium was a surprise hit for many players, shipping over 2 million copies when it initially debuted in 2019 exclusively to Microsoft Windows. Since then, gamers cannot get enough of the fantastic-realist world of Elysium, resulting in the highly acclaimed Final Cut, which is available on PS4, PS5, Stadia, and after years of waiting, soon to be on Switch and Xbox.

Disco Elysium is not a traditional RPG. Putting players in the shoes of an amnesiac detective trying to solve a murder, the main gameplay loop revolves around making diverse dialogue choices, with each branching out into radically offbeat directions that flip the entire narrative upside down. With the aim of trying to get more players involved in the bleak dystopian city of Revachol, Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions of the Final Cut were announced in 2020, although a very loose 2021 release date was attached to them.

Yet now that the cut has received official age ratings for the prior listed versions, it may finally have a dedicated launch set up in place. Spotted by Twitter user Nibellion (via Twisted Voxel), PEGI has rated the game 18+, detailing that the game contains violence, drug use, strong language, references to suicide, and more. All iconic, grimy staples of the Elysium underworld that fans have come to love.

Gamers on the go with the Switch or staying at home on Xbox have a lot to look forward to, as the Final Cut is much more than a port. The indie murder mystery overhaul features full voice acting added for every character, plenty of new cases, newer characters, and locations. This is in addition to a brutal hardcore mode that is sure to keep experienced Elysium detectives on their toes.

Not only that, but Australian players with an urge to do some detecting can also get in on the action as the ban has finally been revoked. The Australian Classification Board previously refused to classify the game because of its graphic nature and violence. However, after another appeal by the publishers, the classification board caved in, meaning Disco Elysium is now available for purchase digitally in Australia as of May 2021.

Speaking of digital availability, Microsoft has yet to declare its September 2021 Xbox Game Pass lineup, deciding to keep a tight lid on any major reveals as of now. But this, in conjunction with the timing of the PEGI rating, has left many gamers speculating that Disco Elysium could be one game coming next month for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Although, as with all theories, this should be taken with a hint of skepticism.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Stadia. Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch versions are slated for this Summer.
