Jupiter Hell is finally leaving Early Access on August 5. Backed on Kickstarter by none other than John Carmack himself, this Doom-inspired roguelike features voicework from Mark Meer – the man behind Mass Effect's Commander Shepard – and top-down action that'll have you ripping and tearing through hordes of demonic foes.
It's been a long road for Jupiter Hell, which entered Early Access way back in March 2019. Originally titled Doom the Roguelike, a cease and desist from Bethesda forced the game to rebrand – hence, Jupiter Hell was born.
A cinematic trailer was released alongside the announcement, and developer ChaosForge also published a list of improvements and additions you can expect to see on August 5:

- Dante Station: The 4th and final act in the gripping story of one hero’s survival against Jupiter Hell. Final boss battle included!
- Trials Mode: a new customizable and moddable way to enjoy Jupiter Hell your way – it’s your run, your scenario, your funeral.
- Arena Mode: Defend against wave-based attacks of enemies, with quicker leveling and item acquisition between waves.
- Endless Mode: Go through fully randomized levels without episodes, branches etc, and see how deep you can get.
- Classic Mode: No story, no branching areas, no special levels, nothing to distract you from sweet, sweet ripping and tearing through demonic hordes.
"Jupiter Hell is a classic, turn-based roguelike set in a 90s flavored sci-fi universe," the team announced. "Set on the moons of Jupiter, this spiritual successor to classic DRL (originally known as Doom, the Roguelike) pits a lone space marine against overwhelming demonic forces. Rip and tear zombies, demons, and unmentionable monstrosities, using classic weaponry such as shotguns, chainguns, railguns, and the trusty chainsaw."
If you're interested in picking up Jupiter Hell, the game will be discounted by 20% at launch to celebrate its long-awaited arrival.
Considering its long and tumultuous development, it's great to see Jupiter Hell finally make it to a full release. And – with John Carmack as a Kickstarter backer – you know it's something to be excited about.
As for Doom Eternal, you can look forward to a new Horde mode later this year, while its next-gen update is now live on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
