Battlefield 2042 Exodus Short Film Explains What You’re Fighting For

Battlefield 2042 isn't getting a single-player campaign, but it's still finding a way to tell a story. EA and DICE today launched Exodus – a nine-minute short film that lays the groundwork for the war raging in the upcoming shooter.

Featuring Battlefield 4's Kimble "Irish" Graves, the film explores the commander's choices on a recent mission and how they'll impact the world in the weeks to come. Played by Michael K Williams – commonly known for his role as Omar Little in The Wire – the film is an impressive look at the world of 2042 and helps set the stage for its release later this year.

Beyond setting up a narrative, the film also came with the announcement that Irish will be one of Battlefield 2042's ten Specialists.

"Irish is the fifth Specialist to be revealed for Battlefield 2042, with five more set to be announced in the coming weeks, totaling 10 Specialists at launch," EA said. "Each Specialist comes with a specific gadget and trait that can only be used by that character, further defining their respective playstyles. Players can also freely choose what weapon, grenade or secondary gadget to equip each Specialist with, providing more freedom to create a unique loadout for each Specialist that fits every playstyle."

Plenty of Battlefield news has dropped over the past few weeks, including rumors that it'll use Easy Anticheat and that some sort of free-to-play feature will be offered. We also know that it won't include ranked matches at launch, although it might arrive in a future update if the community is vocal about it.

Most exciting, however, is the Battlefield Portal, which will let players make their own modes using assets from several games in the franchise.

Battlefield 2042 is set to arrive on October 22.
