Battlefield 2042 Next-Gen Digital Standard Editions Will Have Cross-Gen Feature
Battlefield 2042 players rejoiced after Electronic Arts officially announced that the game’s digital Standard Editions can be upgraded to today’s next-gen consoles free of charge. This decision is a step away from what EA used to implement, which was requiring gamers to purchase the more expensive Gold Edition to be entitled to an upgrade.
Now, however, all Battlefield 2042 fans will be able to enjoy the franchise’s dual entitlement feature, as long as they have the new-gen digital standard version of the game. Although this is regarded as good news overall, this means that players who currently have previous-gen consoles will still have to purchase the game’s new-gen version—if they want to make use of the upgrade system.
Battlefield 2042 fans who purchase the game’s digital Standard Edition on their Xbox One or PS4 consoles—which is $10 cheaper than the title’s price for next-gen consoles—will not be able to access the Cross-Gen bundle. Also, the Cross-Gen bundle is not going to be available for players who have a physical copy of the Battlefield 2042.
“We realize that, for many, next-gen hardware is still hard to come by,” the devs said. “We want as many Battlefield fans as possible to start the journey with us on Day One, and we want to give those players the peace of mind that their progress carries over if they get a new system this holiday season, or beyond.”
Battlefield 2042, which has been slated for a November 19th launch, will feature full cross progression. This means that no matter what console the game is played on—as long as the players will be playing on profiles that are connected to the same EA account—their progress will be carried over.
Battlefield 2042’s digital Standard Edition will be $59.99 for Xbox One and the PS4, while it will be priced at $69.99 for Xbox Series X/S and the PS5.
