A datamine of Battlefield 2042 appears to have revealed new details about the game's yet-to-be-explained Hazard Zone.
Battlefield 2042's first technical test went live over the weekend. The first time anyone outside of the game's creators has had the chance to play the game ahead of its October 2021 release date. Despite the lucky few who managed to snag an invite to the test having to sign agreements forbidding them from sharing in-game footage, some almost immediately appeared online once the test went live.
EA has been busy taking down any footage it finds, also warning leakers that doing so will not end well for them, whatever that might mean. As for what Battlefield fans have learned, leaker Temporyal has revealed details they discovered through a datamine of the game's files. Most notably, additional information about Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone, a mode DICE has revealed very little about so far.
Temporyal's datamine has revealed Hazard Zone appears to share a lot in common with Battlestate Games' Escape From Tarkov. Players will be dropped into the map via a helicopter and be tasked with collecting loot and reaching an extraction point elsewhere. AI and rival players will prevent you from doing that. It also seems as if death will result in you losing all of the loot you collected until that point, including anything you brought to the match with you.
Any loot you manage to escape with can be saved from future matches. But again, death in a future match will result in all loot being lost. There do appear to be perks that can be bought based on your success in Hazard Zone. Loadout Insurance, for example, will presumably save you from losing whatever it is you brought to the match should you be taken out by an AI or another player trying to reach an extraction point.
As for the maps on which Hazard Zone will take place, the mode doesn't appear to have areas of its own. The only one detailed by Temporyal is a variant of Orbital, a map that will be used in Battlefield's other modes. While all of the information above is likely a part of the game right now, it should still be taken with a grain of salt. With a couple of months to go and an ongoing technical test, there's no way of knowing what will make the final cut until EA confirms it.
