Black Friday: Will there be any PS5 deals?

The biggest sales event of the year is almost upon us but what are the chances you can get any PS5 consoles or games cheap?

Black Friday has always been perfectly poised for video game bargains. The end of November (November 26 this year) is just after most of the big Christmas games have been released and while you’ll be lucky to get a deal on the very biggest ones almost everything else is fair game.

However, the most desirable video game product this year is the PlayStation 5 console, which is now a year old and yet still impossible to pick up on the spur of the moment from stores or online.

Global chip shortages and the other problems of the pandemic mean you have to be in the right place at the right time to pick one up, although we always try to provide some early warning for major restocks.

Will there be any PS5 Black Friday deals?

Given the stock problems the big question this Christmas is whether the PlayStation 5 will be discounted as part of the Black Friday sales.

The short answer to that is no. The long answer is no, not a chance. Given how scarce stock of the console is no retailer is going to want to sell it at less than full price, given how many people are willing to pay more than the standard price for them on places like eBay.

There is an outside possibility a retailer may do some kind of one-off promotion, or perhaps a bundle which, while expensive overall, represents a large saving but basically, you’ve got no chance of getting a PlayStation 5, or an Xbox Series X, cheap during Black Friday.

What are the best PS5 Black Friday games deals?

While there’s not likely to be any discounts for the consoles you are likely to see deals for PlayStation 5 games, which should be just as much subject to price cuts as anything else.

The PlayStation 5 has been out for exactly a year now and given it had a surprisingly good launch line-up (given the problems of the pandemic) there are a number of excellent first party exclusives, some of which are also on PlayStation 4, that are due for a discount.

You can already imagine the best places to check in the UK, although we’ll be providing updates when specific deals are annouced.

Top UK retailers to buy a PS5 console

  • Amazon.co.uk – the biggest retailer in the world
  • GAME – the UK’s largest dedicated video game chain
  • Argos – local stores can have widely varying stock levels
  • Currys – runs its own VIP code system to discourage scalpers
  • John Lewis – limited variety but does get regular restocks
  • Very – a newer retailer than the rest but it gets lots of stock

The most obvious candidates are the launch games themselves, so here’s what to look out for along with their current RRP for comparison:

The next few all came out in the first half of the year, so there’s a good chance for them too:

These newer games aren’t likely to get as big discounts but you’ll still likely seem them at £10 or so off:
