Black Myth: Wukong Jumps To Unreal Engine 5 With New 12-Minute Trailer

One year after Black Myth Wukong was first announced with an extra-long 13-minute trailer, Game Science has once again returned with another trailer that's not quite as long, but certainly just as impressive. And on top of that, it also announced the game’s engine is getting an upgrade.

What we see in the 12-minute trailer is all done in Unreal Engine 5, the latest iteration of Epic's game engine software. Unreal Engine 5 has support for loads of next-gen features, like raytracing and DLSS, and it'll also support 4K resolutions up to 60 fps for PS5 and Xbox Series X (and whatever PC can run at that graphics load).

Unlike previous trailers, this latest one seems to provide a bit more detail on what to expect in the finished product. It seems like Wukong will have a very Soulslike collection of stat bars, including health, magic/mana, and stamina. Dodges and attacks use stamina, while the blue magic bar drains with every spell cast.

Wukong will have quite a few abilities and melee combos available to him, and he might even get alternate weapons. The icon in the lower right seems to indicate Wukong's equipped weapon/f and fighting style, while the left-most icons indicate his available spells/abilities.

Game Science has also updated its website with more tantalizing details about Black Myth: Wukong. "The story of Wukong tells more than Wukong himself," writes Game Science. "The monkey is the leading role for sure, but he is still a small part of the whole vivid world."

Expect "cunning fairies, brutal monsters, amorous lords," and "coward gods" to appear at various points throughout Wukong's story.

Game Science also confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong will be a "one-time purchase with possible DLCs and in-game purchases aftwards." The developer promised to avoid pay-to-win mechanics, and even hinted as the possibility of a sequel "as we are dreaming of a Black Myth series."

Black Myth: Wukong still doesn’t have a release date yet and the footage shown might not indicate the final product. That said, it seems like Game Science has a lot of game assets already completed and it’d be a shame to not use ‘em.
