Blumhouse TV And WWE Are Developing A Scripted Vince McMahon Series

While Blumhouse is usually known for its forays into the horror genre, this time around the company is partnering with the WWE to develop a limited series based on one of the biggest stories the wrestling organization ever dealt with. Blumhouse Television is going to produce a mini-series based on Vince McMahon's 1990s trial when he was accused of giving steroids to wrestlers under his employ.

In the 1990s, the WWE was still trying to grow to the force in professional wrestling it's recognized as today. The WWF was still considered the king of the hill by some and Vince McMahon's newest endeavor was working hard to get eyeballs on his property on television. The organization being on the come up is one of the reasons McMahon was accused of providing steroids to several of his wrestlers and eventually, that trial helped him establish his name further.

The United States vs. Vince McMahon will focus on the trial and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is the first scripted drama of that era of the WWE and the stars who were front and center during that time. Blumhouse Television president Chris McCumber told the publication that he's quite excited to get this project going. He added that he believes that the saga that is going to unfold on screen is stranger than fiction. McCumber also said Blumhouse is thrilled that it's going to be collaborating with the WWE again.

The Vince McMahon series does not have a writer attached to the show yet but is said to be adapting a number of New York Times stories focusing on the WWE in the 1990s. Those stories alleged McMahon was giving several of his most famous wrestlers steroids in order to make them bigger, faster, and stronger. Eventually, those reports caught the attention of the FBI and federal prosecutors. The US Attorney for New York eventually filed charges.

The charges against the man who has been central to the professional wrestling scene for decades included possession of illegal steroids with the intent to distribute. Ultimately, the head of the WWE went to trial, where he was unanimously acquitted.

McMahon will be an executive producer on The United States vs. Vince McMahon and will be working side-by-side with Blumhouse founder Jason Blum, as well as others from the studio's higher-ups. This will be the latest team-up between Blumhouse and the WWE and yet another foray into television for the studio that is best known for chills and thrills on the big screen.

The United States vs. Vince McMahon is currently in development.
