Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Releases New Story Trailer

Yesterday, we found out that Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, the spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio, will arrive on Nintendo Switch in 2022. A little bit later, we found out it'd also hit Steam at the same time, and that other consoles would arrive "a little later."

Today, developer Team Reptile decided to follow up their Nintendo Indie Showcase announcement with another trailer, this time revealing more of Cyberfunk's story.

The trailer is narrated by Kiana Green in the form of an underground radio show (or perhaps even a podcast). She calls the protagonist a man who's "lost his head," which perhaps explains why he has a robotic-looking box where a normal person's cranium would be.

This headless hero is "going for the crowns” of the five boroughs of the city, perhaps referring to five rival gangs which control each of the city's regions. To take them on, our parkour protagonist pairs up with a blue-haired woman who's dancing in the streets–perhaps the first of many to join this robotic rail rider's crew.

But this town isn't just rival street gangs fighting over turf with cool moves and cans of spray paint. There's some sort of "military police" in charge, and if they don't like you, they'll fire heat-seeking missiles to ruin your day. But apparently, tagging the seeker turret will make them go away.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the self-proclaimed successor to Sega Dreamcast's Jet Set Radio, one of the few classics to come from the 2000-era console. It's about graffiti artists, urban culture, and a funky soundtrack provided by Hideki Naganuma, who coincidentally also composed the music for the original Jet Set Radio.

As shown in the trailers, movement is at the heart of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Your Bboostpack combines parkour with the ability to grind rails without skates and even grind upside-down or along sheer walls.

And according to Team Reptile, "Yes there is skateboarding! There will still be more ways to get around." We'll have to wait for more trailers to drop to see what those alternate modes of transportation turn out to be.
