Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights

Square Enix announced Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights is shutting down – the mobile title based on their popular RPG Bravely franchise.

The game’s official account(s) revealed that it will end its services on February 28, 2023. They also revealed that another app will be released, allowing players to replay old cutscenes one the original version is made unavailable.

The smartphone RPG launched January 27th in Japan for both IOS and Android, yet it seems that not even one year later the game will be ending its service.

While the news will likely disappoint fans, it appears the game it was nowhere near popular enough for Square Enix to believe they should continue supporting it. This is despite the RPG hitting over 4 million downloads, mere weeks after launching.

Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights shutting down marks another mobile title finding itself shutting down services. In fact, it’s not even the only Square Enix mobile game to be shut down in the past year either.

Recently, they announced Final Fantasy Record Keeper is ending service outside of Japan and Final Fantasy VII First Soldier is also ending its service, barely one year after launch.

Ending service for Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights so soon alongside these other closures could be a poor sign for the mobile division of Square Enix.

Of course, they do still have plenty of other mobile titles, such as recent one based on Octopath Traveler, however fans of that game may now have worries due to the other closures.
