The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War reveal trailer dropped today, showing off shots of the campaign and a tiny bit of multiplayer. Call of Duty has spent weeks sending hints and teasers on social media, in Call of Duty: Warzone, and even in the form of mysterious puzzles sent to the Call of Duty community. Now that the game has been revealed, Black Ops Cold War confirms that multiple studios have been hard at work on it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be published by Activision, but developed mainly by Treyarch and Raven Software. However, there are multiple studios working in collaboration on different parts of the game. Raven Software will be handling the campaign of Black Ops Cold War and changing some features of the previous Call of Duty campaigns. For the first time ever, the campaign story has multiple endings based on choices and playstyle.

Treyarch is taking the lead on the multiplayer, which will be a large responsibility based on how much support the current Call of Duty multiplayer receives. However, the dynamic duo of developers will not be alone. Joining them is Beenox, High Noon Studios, Activision Shanghai, and Sledgehammer Games. All are owned by Activision, but have a variety of notable games each studio has worked on in the past.

Beenox is a small Canadian studio that has worked on multiple Spider-Man games over the years, and most recently developed Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled. Beenox has the unique job of optimizing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on PC to run on Blizzard’s online gaming platform, Battle.net. While the details remain unclear about the additional studios’ roles in development, their areas of expertise are sure to play a substantial part in the game’s development.

Sledgehammer Games has plenty of experience developing Call of Duty games, with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare being its first title as lead developer. Activision Shanghai is also heavily involved with supporting online features of Call of Duty. The first reveal trailer was censored in China, so Activision Shanghai may look to start reviewing content for potential Chinese censorship as well.

High Moon Studios is most known for its work on the Deadpool game as well as multiple Transformers titles. Although its role remains unclear, the studio has supported Call of Duty: Modern Warfare most recently and will carry the experience to Black Ops Cold War. Each studio has experience with Call of Duty and as Activision subsidiaries, the studios will work well together to develop Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is currently in development.
