Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is officially revealing details about its highly anticipated Season Five. The new season will add new things across nearly all of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone's modes, but fans are getting particularly excited for the new Zombies content, which includes a new field upgrade, a perk, and more.
Developer Treyarch and Raven Software's seventeenth mainline entry in Activision's long-running Call of Duty series is coming up on being nine months old. Black Ops Cold War has been a pioneering title for the fan-favorite Zombies mode, introducing the open-world Outbreak and allowing players to start matches with preset loadouts. Fans were treated to the new Mauer der Toten map as part of Season Four Reloaded just a few weeks ago, and now have even more Zombies content on the horizon.

Detailed in a blog post on the official Call of Duty website, Season Five will introduce several additional items to aid players in their never-ending fight against the undead. First, the fan-favorite perk Death Perception makes its return. Featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Death Perception grants the player who drinks it the ability to see obscured enemies through walls by giving them a bright outline highlight, making it much less likely to be caught off-guard. The blog teases the Perk's true power resides through its Skill Tiers, which it has yet to reveal in full detail, although it does say Death Perception can increase "survivability, awareness, armor penetration, and even Salvage drop rates."
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hasn't had a new Field Upgrade since Toxic Growth from Season Three, but the drought is finally about to end. At the launch of the upcoming season, the all-new Tesla Storm will become available. When players utilize this Field Upgrade, lightning will shoot out between themselves and their allies, stunning and damaging normal enemies. As the Tesla Storm's Skill Tiers are upgraded with Aetherium Crystals, the electricity will start affecting Special and Elite zombies, and can even boost the squad's overall movement speed.
In addition to the Perk and Field Upgrade, the Flamethrower is arriving as the latest Support Weapon. However, one thing that Season Five doesn't have is a new Survival map. Mauer der Toten is still a fairly fresh addition, but the number of available "classic" Zombies maps is currently sitting at just three. With just three maps over nine months, a sizable portion of Black Ops Cold War's fanbase has made it known that they'd be willing to pay for a Zombies Chronicles 2.
Season Five for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone launches August 12, but with Fall fast approaching, some fans are already looking towards CoD 2021. It would seem that Activision is too, as a CoD 2021 teaser is in Season Five's artwork.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
