A recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update has changed the numbers on a fan favorite attachment. Although there was no mention of the change in the Modern Warfare patch notes, players noticed an immediate difference in their favorite build.

Several months ago, a secret foregrip buff was discovered attached to the Mercenary Foregrip. This attachment buffed player’s movement about 3.7 percent, quickly making it a standard in competitive circles. New information has appeared which reveals that not only is the buff gone, the attachment itself has been severely nerfed.

According to content Creator TrueGame Data, the buff has not only been removed but an additional nerf has been applied to the popular weapon attachment. A 1% speed reduction has been added to the Mercenary Foregrip. This speed reduction is a massive decrease to what fans are used for resulting in many players ditching the attachment immediately. Some fans recommend the Ranger Foregrip, but there is no honest or true replacement for the advantage that the Mercenary Foregrip gave to players. Many fans believe that the change happened due to the strength of the attachment itself. The movement speed switch makes the attachment undesirable for Assault Rifles, and perfect for SMG fans.

After the original Mercenary Foregrip stat was discovered players started running the attachment on all assault rifles. The 3.7 movement buff outpaced any other speed boost making it one of the most advantageous attachments in the game. The attachment was mainly designed to provide recoil control and increase hip-fire accuracy, the mixture of these factors with the speed boost made it an immediate go-to pick for Call of Duty league players.

In its current state, the Mercenary Foregrip has only a 0.3 percent over the Ranger Foregrip making the Ranger the replacement piece. The Mercenary is now better suited for SMGs but the Ranger will hold it’s own in long-range engagements on multiple Assault Riffles. Fans will just have to see if the hip fire adjustment on an SMG is worth the speed based trade-off for competitive and casual fans.

Still, many fans expect the Mercenary Foregrip to remain as the top option in Modern Warfare and Warzone. The attachment still proves a 10 percent increase in hip-fire accuracy making it a truly strong under-barrel option. With the movement nerf in place, fans are sure to see the AR meta start to shake and be replaced by either SMGs or LMGs.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
