Call of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer Gets Action-Packed New Trailer

Call of Duty: Vanguard is another Call of Duty title set in World War 2, the first in a few years to bear the distinction. Changing things up this time around are destructible environments and, as shown in a Stalingrad gameplay demo, a female protagonist for the campaign.

There are a lot of things for fans of the series to look forward to in Call of Duty: Vanguard, from the single-player campaign to the return of Zombies. Now a new trailer has arrived explicitly to show off the game's multiplayer.

The trailer shows a few pre-rendered cutscenes which are presumably part of the campaign, but transitions to multiplayer gameplay pretty fast. By far the most explicit and extensive part of the multiplayer shown off in the trailer is the map selection. Multiple environments are shown off in rapid succession, and all of the environments look very good. From a beached battleship to the confines of burning alleyways, it all looks fantastic. Comparing Battlefield 2042's trailer to Call of Duty: Vanguard's shows a smaller scale for Vanguard, but far more intimate interactions and details, including bloodsplatter and graphical detail.

These maps and several multiplayer modes were confirmed for the Vanguard beta already, but it's nice to see action on them through the trailer. Said trailer also shows off the various melee kill animations, and there is a lot of choice for players. Some examples include knee-capping an enemy at close range and finishing them with a kick, another involves the copious use of a sledgehammer. One involves the use of a samurai sword, and another even uses a baseball bat in an animation straight out of Inglorious Basterds.

What looks like a crafting table was shown, alluding to Vanguard's leaked gunsmith feature. The customization seems fairly extensive, but how much and for what weapons is not yet fully known.

Killstreaks were not always obvious, although it's safe to assume the planes flying overhead are obtained through them. The strangest and most hilarious one was a miniature tank piloted by a player that explodes on command. It's clearly the World War 2 version of the exploding RC killstreak, and it looks rather out of place. There's still more to know about Vanguard's beta, which runs a couple of weekends this month. Soon players will have a more accurate picture of Vanguard than any trailer can provide.

Call of Duty: Vanguard releases on November 5 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
