Call of Duty: Warzone May Have Secretly Buffed The MP5

One of the most consistently debated topics in the Call of Duty: Warzone community is weapon balancing. While some recent changes to the MP5 infuriated Call of Duty: Warzone players, it seems like those adjustments may have been reverted via a secret buff.

The MP5 was one of the biggest victims of a recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare weapon nerf inside of Warzone. Unsurprisingly, this decision infuriated many players, as it made the already strong Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weaponry even more viable. With both damage and range taking some hits, the MP5 fell out of the meta instantly once the changes were made. Considering how few guns from the Modern Warfare reboot are able to compete with the Black Ops Cold War additions, this change was devastating.

However, it seems like complaints have been heard regarding Call of Duty: Warzone’s MP5 nerf. As pointed out by the weapon statistics expert TrueGameData, it seems like the gun was given a significant boost in the August 25 patch. However, it took gamers a few days to discover the changes, as developer Raven Software made no mention of the adjustment in the patch notes. Based on TrueGameData’s video, though, there certainly seems to have been a buff of some kind.

The MP5 SMG has seen its TTK improved significantly, which is one of the two main stats that were nerfed earlier this month. While the YouTuber swaps between 9mm and 10mm mags, both tests seem to show that the gun is dealing more damage than it was prior to August 25. However, the 10mm mags do seem like the right move for players that are looking to create a strong MP5 loadout. Following the hidden buff, the gun once again holds up when compared to other weapons in its class, as it is particularly viable at close range.

While it makes sense that these changes were made, as gamers were particularly annoyed by the unnecessary adjustment to the MP5, it is strange that developer Raven Software did not mention the changes in the patch notes. While it is possible that this buff was accidental and will be reverted, which would once again make it weak, that seems unlikely. Still, it is odd that a highly requested change would go unmentioned, as many would have been happy to know that the MP5 was restored to its former glory back on August 25.

Regardless, Call of Duty: Warzone fans that have enjoyed using the Modern Warfare version of the MP5 should be happy to know that it can compete with other SMGs again. Though there may be better options, it is devastating enough at close range to be considered meta once again.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
