Call Of Duty: Warzone Pacific update delayed by a week – out same day as Halo Infinite

The next major content update for both Call Of Duty: Warzone and Call Of Duty: Vanguard has been pushed back by another week.

The release of Call Of Duty: Vanguard meant a fresh new start for post-launch Call Of Duty content. The game’s first season is scheduled to begin in early December, alongside a major new update for Call Of Duty: Warzone that replaces Verdansk with an entirely new map.

These content updates were planned for December 2, but Activision has announced that it will be pushing them back by another week to December 8. The new Caldera map for Call Of Duty: Warzone will still be available a day early for Call Of Duty: Vanguard players, so most players won’t get access until December 9.

Activision hasn’t issued an explanation for the delay, and it is very easy to assume that it’s related to the ongoing controversies plaguing the company at the moment. Although the 8th does also happen to be the launch day of Halo Infinite.

Back in the summer, Activision was hit with a lawsuit filed by the State of California for allegedly fostering a toxic work environment and ‘frat boy’ culture, resulting in multiple instances of harassment, abuse, and gender discrimination.

Since then, CEO Bobby Kotick has come under fire for his initial response to the allegations and, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, deliberately withholding information on numerous incidents of sexual misconduct from the board of directors for years.

Nearly 1,800 employees across all of Activision are now demanding that Kotick resign. Even the bosses of PlayStation and Xbox – Jim Ryan and Phil Spencer, respectively – have criticised the company and called on it to make meaningful changes.

It’s possible that Activision’s toxic reputation has begun to affect its games as well. Call Of Duty: Vanguard’s launch sales were the lowest in the series since 2007’s Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which most likely led to the idea of a free weekend barely two weeks after launch.

The company also lacks any major upcoming releases to try and curry favour with its fanbase, with Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 having been delayed until 2023 at the earliest.

Call Of Duty: Vanguard is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
