Call of Duty: Warzone SMGs May Have Gotten Secret Buffs

Call of Duty: Warzone players and content creators are always doing their best to keep up with the game’s meta, and an interesting discovery has been made. Apparently, some of the SMGs in Call of Duty: Warzone may have been given a hidden buff by Raven Software.

This is hardly the first time that the Call of Duty: Warzone community has found a secret gun boost within the battle royale game. The C58 Assault Rifle, for example, was able to have its recoil lessened with the use of the Royal and Kross 4x sight. More recently, YouTuber JGOD discovered that a certain QBZ-83 magazine gave the gun faster ADS time. Now, fellow YouTuber TrueGameData has given players a reason to use SMGS, specifically those that come from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Following Call of Duty: Warzone’s big TTK update, significant changes were made to the game’s lineup of weaponry. According to TrueGameData, it is the SMG adjustments that are particularly intriguing, as they are “a lot like ARs now.” This is because the third type of damage drop-off has been done away with. Previously, shots from over 25 meters did significantly less damage, but that is no longer the case. The guns now only boast two damage profiles, meaning that they are much more usable at mid-long range than they previously were.

TrueGameData suggests using these SMGs to support Call of Duty: Warzone’s Snipers, a strategy that many other loadout experts have recommended. Having a close range and long range weapon is always smart, and with SMGs now being better from a distance, they could be a better option than Assault Rifles when it comes to backups. With the guns having faster handling than Assault Rifles, but also boasting similar ranges, this range change could be huge. As such, players may want to have one ready to go in their Overkill setups.

A second video from YouTuber BennyCentral does some further testing, letting Call of Duty: Warzone players know which attachments should be used. While they can stick to the usual attachments for the most part, it seems like the Agency and GRU Suppressors are no longer meta. Instead, gamers should equip a Sound Suppressor for the best effect, as it provides a noticeable increase to sprint-to-fire time. With this attachment change and the hidden buff to the SMG class's range, the weapons could become a lot more prevalent in Season 5 and beyond.

While these weapons are unlikely to make a difference against Call of Duty: Warzone’s many cheaters, they should perform well against those playing fairly. With so many changes and broken weapons being found, it will be interesting to see what guns become meta over the next few weeks.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
