Catdog Will Fight April O’Niel in Upcoming Fighting Game

This Game Was Already Absurd, And it Just Got Crazier

In a world where Smash Bros. exists, the idea of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl should be a familiar concept. Nickelodeon has a huge cast of memorable characters, and putting them all into a platform-fighter sounds like an incredibly nostalgic time. Currently, the game’s revealed fighters include Danny Phantom, Nigel Thornberry, and Spongebob Squarepants. Now, Catdog and April O’Niel can join their ranks.

Each of these characters got their own reveal trailer – short as they were, they do offer a quick glance at how these two might perform on the battlefield.

Catdog’s design of two animals in one body lends itself quite well to a fighter able to hit in two directions at once. It’s totally possible that each side could have unique moves – no better place exists for a 2-in-1 fighter, though the trailer wasn’t long enough to say for sure.

April’s style seems a lot more close-and-personal, with a number of projectile-reflecting moves to back her up. She can also use her camera to attack, though in gameplay it seems to be yet another close-range option, rather than a tool for dealing damage at a distance.

Though the news isn’t happy for everyone – many speculate that April’s inclusion means that other unrevealed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles representatives, like Shredder, won’t be in the final product. No show has more than three revealed inclusions, and TMNT fans can already look forward to playing as Leonardo and Michelangelo.

Regardless, All-Star Brawl is shaping up to be an interesting release for sure. Since the studio developing it has a history with fighting games, there’s a nonzero chance we could see this game rise to the same prominence as other popular fighters. Whether that’s a blessing or a curse is yet to be seen, but it’ll be worth watching no matter what.
