CD Projekt Red Launches Kickstarter Campaign For The Witcher Comics

What if The Witcher didn't take place in some sort of alternate European fantasy world, but in medieval Japan? Then we'd have Geralt and Witchers fighting against Yokai instead of werewolves, demons, and undead monsters.

That's the premise of The Witcher: Ronin, a brand new Kickstarter from CD Projekt Red. The Kickstarter just got underway today and is already fully funded with over 5,000 backers and counting.

At the heart of The Witcher: Ronin is the Hard Copy Collector's Edition manga, which includes the full 100 full-color pages of an all-new alternate version of Geralt in ancient Japan. It'll also include three 15-page short stories that stars fan-favorite Witcher characters like Vesemir and Yennefer, as well as a 10-page making-of section and a variant cover art postcard.

The story is being written by CD Projekt's own Rafat Jaki, while the art is provided by Japanese illustrator Hataya. The Witcher: Ronin will be available in English, Japanese, and Polish.

The Kickstarter has four tiers, although only two of them are still available. The Standard Wanderer tier is priced at €35 and gets you everything in the Hard Copy Collector's Edition of The Witcher: Ronin. The €50 Deluxe Wanderer tier gets you everything in the Standard tier plus a full-size poster of the variant cover art featured on the postcard.

The €150 and €1050 Deluxe Wanderer tiers are no longer available but would have provided some hand-drawn art from Hataya herself.

There are also a few add-on items, such as pins, a tote bag, and a statuette of Geralt fighting a Tengu. Back the project within the first 24 hours (so until the end of today) and CD Projekt has promised that Tengu statuette for free.

The Witcher: Ronin is already fully funded and has already gained another €30,000 in the time it took for me to write this article. You’ve got until September 27 to decide to back the project.
