Chernobylite Release Date Delayed at Last Minute

The Farm 51's survival horror RPG Chernobylite is something of a unique title. This and STALKER are a rare breed of games that take place in Chernobyl, specifically inside the Exclusion Zone where the original power plant disaster of 1986 occurred. While the PC version of the former had a full release at the end of July this year, fans are still waiting to hear when a console port will be inbound. While there's not much longer to wait now, unfortunately, it looks as though the release date has had to be pushed back just that little bit further.

According to a recent report, Chernobylite will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 28. This is just three weeks after the initial date when it was announced that the Ukraine-based indie horror game would get a console release on September 7. There are also plans to release PS5 and Xbox Series versions, which could be launching next year, but currently there is no finalized release date from official sources.

The reason for the push back is down to the CEO of publisher All in! Games, Piotr Żygadło, saying that there have been "unforeseen issues" with the console versions, and that the team need just a few weeks more to work on making it a solid port. Chernobylite on the PC has already received a decent amount of praise, although there are some criticisms, mostly around missions and enemy AI, so it's understandable that the studio want to allow console fans to play it as well.

Chernobylite launched its first trailer back in April, having kick-started the campaign back in 2019. Before the year was out, The Farm 51 had secured the funding for development, and it wasn't long before an early access version of the game was launched on Steam and GOG. The most impressive thing about the game are the visuals, which uses 3D scans of the real Chernobyl environment taken by the team. These images were then digitally transferred into the game to make up its textures with amazing results.

With STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl coming out next April, there is something of a market for horror based games that are set in the Exclusion Zone. It's a fairly niche genre, but games like Chernobylite still maintain the usual elements of a stealth horror title, while also implementing aspects from other genres, such as role-playing elements, a love story, and even base building. It will be interesting to see how well the game does on console, and whether it can follow in its rival's footsteps and offer up a sequel.

Chernobylite will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on September 28, with PS5 and Xbox Series versions being planned as well.
