Cookie Clicker Is Coming To Steam In September

Cookie Clicker, perhaps the most famous incremental game ever created, will be making its debut on Steam this September.

Sometimes, you want to watch a movie or play a game that isn't going to mentally challenge you all that much. In fact, sometimes you want a form of entertainment to not challenge you at all. You can completely check out while still consuming it. If that sounds like the sort of thing that is right up your alley, then the iconic idle game Cookie Clicker is for you.

Cookie Clicker has actually been around for eight years at this point. However, its creator Julien 'Orteil' Thiennot recently revealed their game will be available on an all-new platform. Cookie Clicker is coming to Steam for the very first time and will launch on the platform for $4.99 on September 1, 2021.

Cookie Clicker was originally released as a browser game in 2013 and took Orteil just one night to create. However, as highlighted on its new Steam page, a lot has changed in eight years. Orteil has constantly updated the game, and while it has no definitive ending, there are more than 600 upgrades to unlock and 500 achievements to, well, achieve. It is also incredibly addictive despite its simplicity, as is the ultimate goal of any incremental game.

The clue is in the name when it comes to what you need to do in Cookie Clicker. The game begins with you needing to do nothing more than click the first cookie that appears on-screen. That results in more cookies appearing which also need to be clicked, and so on and so forth. You unlock more cursors along the way and even helpers that will click cookies for you. Hence the classification as an idle game as it will eventually reach a point where you don't need to click the cookies at all.

If you need a game that doesn't require you to solve a complex puzzle to progress, or result in you wanting to embed your controller in the wall, then Cookie Clicker might be worth your time. Even if you just need short breaks to remind you video games don't actually have to mean anything, nor do they need an end point. Cookie Clicker's cookie counter goes up into the duodecillions and beyond. Yes, that is a real number. A very big one.
