Xbox Game Studios have announced the release date for the Xbox exclusive tactical first-person shooter CrossfireX has been delayed.

Originally slated to launch in 2020 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X, the game’s official Twitter account announced the delay to 2021. The reason for the delay was stated as complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and wanting to ensure the game match the developer’s own expectations.

“After much deliberation, and in consideration of the challenges faced by the Smilegate development team due to COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of CrossfireX to 2021.

Moving our release will allow us to deliver the Crossfire experience on console our team set out to create. We’ll have more to share in the future.”

As previously reported, CrossfireX is a fast-paced first-person shooter with players taking on the role of members of one of the two most prolific private military companies.

In the campaign (developed by Remedy Entertainment), players take a stand in the globe-spanning war between the Global Risk and Black List mercenary companies, and shows stories from both sides of the fight. The game’s multiplayer (developed by Smilegate Entertainment) will be free-to-play.
