It was only a few weeks ago that CD Projekt RED released Patch 1.3 for Cyberpunk 2077. And though the aim of the developers was to address the many issues and bugs already present within the game, the new patch has even given birth to many additional glitches that players have discovered since applying the update. Now, a Cyberpunk 2077 fan has taken it upon themselves to fix a pretty big issue in the title, creating their own mod that makes the game playable again for fans who have older CPUs in their laptops or desktops.
Having Cyberpunk 2077 unplayable for setups with older CPUs is only one of the few issues brought about by the game's Patch 1.3. Players have recently discovered a host of other glitches, including those involving an odd swimming animation in Cyberpunk 2077, retaining many NPC clones in the in-game world, and even making Johnny Silverhand partly invisible. With many things needing to be fixed within the game, the development team seems like they have too many things on their plate, and may not address the unplayable issue as quickly as the others. Likely considering this as a serious problem, it is no wonder a dedicated fan developed the mod to aid the community.

On NexusMods, the Patch 1.3 AVX Fix was created and uploaded recently by Jens Andree. In the description, the mod was created to help players with older CPUs fix the EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION (0xC000001D) crash. For players with CPUs that are not AVX-capable, they most likely have experienced this bug when trying to play Cyberpunk 2077. Andree noted in the description that the crash involves the AudioKinetic sound engine, and they had to manually patch out 33 AVX instructions so that the mod can make the game playable once more.
Andree mentioned that users who have experienced any other crashes related to the mod can freely report them, allowing them to look into the issue and recreate them into their own computer. This likely indicates that Andree is willing to continue working on the mod so that Cyberpunk 2077 fans with older machines can still enjoy the game without having to upgrade to higher specs.
Though the game is still rife with bugs and glitches, CD Projekt RED continues to create content with an upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. Though the developers have mentioned that the DLCs will focus more on aesthetics and quality-of-life more than the narrative. Hopefully the new DLCs will fix the current issues first, and help prioritize making a better gameplay experience for its fans.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions currently in development.
