The Danganronpa Collection is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year, on the 3rd of December, but only one part of it is Switch-exclusive: Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, an expanded standalone version of the board minigame “Ultimate Talent Development Plan” in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.

Ultimate Summer Camp is set in an alternate universe where all the characters from the various Danganronpa games live in relative harmony on an island summer camp. They’ll need to find ten “Hope Shards” in order to return home, which they can do by playing a Mario Party-esque board game where the squares you can land on include things like “Growth”, “Battle”, “Event”, and “Friendship”.

In Spike Chunsoft’s latest blog, the details of Ultimate Summer Camp have been outlined a little more since the E3 announcement, and that includes the new microtransactions, described as follows (emphasis ours):

“Spend your Monocoins and Monomicoins at the MonoMono Machines in the School Store for a chance to pull new characters and items. The three types of MonoMono Machines have different drop rates and require machine-specific coins.

You will gain a greater advantage as you obtain new characters and items, so don’t hesitate to use up your coins as they come in.

For example, the MonoMono Yachine is more likely to grant swimsuit SR cards, while the Golden MonoMono Machine only contains high-rarity cards.

Don’t worry about saving coins–keep spending them to fill out your roster and inventory!

All content such as characters, character upgrade cards, and items can be unlocked by playing the game. All characters and character upgrade cards can also be purchased through the MonoMono Machines at the School Store with real-world money.

In short, there is the option in-game to spend your real money on “Monocoins” and “Monomicoins”, which can be used in a gacha machine to buy new cards, outfits, items, and character upgrades. However, the coins can also be earned by playing the game.

Danganronpa Decadence is available for pre-order now as a set for $59.99, and the $100 Collector’s Edition can be found on Spike Chunsoft’s website. Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp will cost $19.99 / £17.99 as a standalone game.

Does the addition of microtransactions put you off playing the new Danganronpa game, or are you perfectly happy to play Ultimate Summer Camp as-is? Let us know in the comments.
