Dauntless next-gen version dated for PS5 and Xbox Series

Dauntless invites fans to slay in 4K as the popular free-to-play title heads to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S next month.

A next-gen version of the online monster-hunting RPG will touch down on December 2, 2021, with enhanced visuals and performance. Slayers can carry their progress over and enjoy seamless cross-platform multiplayer with PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

So what improvements does Dauntless offer on next-gen platforms? Here’s an overview, courtesy of developer Phoenix Labs:

Experience exceptionally improved visuals on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This includes everything from beautiful new lighting and atmospheres, improved view distance, volumetric fog and other effects, to reworked environment textures, trees, water, grass, and higher quality shadows.

On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, enjoy dynamic 4K resolution targeting 60 FPS. On Xbox Series S, enjoy 1440p resolution targeting 60 FPS.

Across all 3 next-gen consoles, get into the hunt sooner with up to 90% faster load times.

Those are some pretty nifty upgrades for existing players and newcomers alike. If you’re a lapsed slayer, then here’s a perfect excuse to re-join the hunt.

In fact, if you haven’t played the game in over a year, a lot has changed. Phoenix Labs has completely restructured its flagship title for a more open and immersive experience. In 2020, it introduced the Hunting Grounds – each hub allowing you to drop in and out, scouting for Behemoths to slay and resources to collect. This replaced the previous, mission-based structure that resulted in too much downtime between bouts of action.

We delivered our verdict of Dauntless following the Reforged update, saying:

“Phoenix Labs have taken a bold leap with Dauntless Reforged, breaking their flagship game down and rearranging the peices into a mosaic that is without doubt more intuitive and engaging, even if returning players may find it somewhat… daunting. It’s mad to think you can still enjoy everything this game has to offer for free, without spending a penny. Dauntless is a true champion of the free-to-play genre.”
