David Jaffe Comments On Twisted Metal Revival Rumors | Game Rant

Twisted Metal Jaffe Rumor

This past week a surprise rumor spread regarding the resurrection of the PlayStation car combat franchise Twisted Metal. Details were understandably scant, but the basic idea was that a new Twisted Metal game was in development with a tentative release window of 2023. Curious fans went to a source they assumed might have more information, which was Twisted Metal 2 and Twisted Metal Black director David Jaffe. Jaffe was, unfortunately, not happy about the situation.

Jaffe is now working as a YouTube content creator and streamer, making it quite easy for fans to reach out to him. Posed the question of whether he's heard of a new Twisted Metal project or if he's been involved, David Jaffe made it clear that he had heard nothing about it. Further, Jaffe said that if the rumor was true, that he'd be "hurt" over the decision not to contact him about it. He says he wouldn't expect to be directly involved, but that it'd mean a lot for PlayStation to at least contact him considering how close he's been to Twisted Metal in the past.

For the time being, Jaffe isn't persuaded that the rumor about a new Twisted Metal game is true. He says that, ahead of the new Twisted Metal TV show being confirmed, he was contacted for a "couple of calls." Considering that happened not too long ago, it would be odd to contact Jaffe about the TV show and then not contact him about a new game going into development.

The last thing Jaffe notes is that while he would expect to be contacted about a new Twisted Metal game, there's precedence that PlayStation wouldn't reach out. Jaffe was also the director of the original God of War and then creative director for God of War 2. Jaffe says that PlayStation didn't contact him about the development of the God of War reboot, which released in 2018, so the same could be happening here.

To call the situation complicated would be an understatement. Jaffe is well-regarded among certain circles at PlayStation, as he says he still has contacts that he talks with there often. However, it's also true that Jaffe has become somewhat of a controversial figure online, as he's said a variety of offensive things on social media and in his YouTube content. As such, if PlayStation is making a new Twisted Metal and decided not to contact Jaffe, there could be many reasons for that decision.

It bears repeating that this entire situation revolves around a hypothetical project, because by no means is it official that PlayStation is making a new Twisted Metal game. And if it is true, it will likely be a very long time until it's officially announced. Fans can expect this story to develop over the next year or two.
