Dead Space Remake Targeting 2022 Release

The recently announced Dead Space remake is scheduled for release at the end of 2022 if the development goes smoothly, according to a new report. Electronic Arts is not yet ready to announce the specific launch window, as it is subject to change.

Industry insider Jeff Grubb, who was among the first to report the Dead Space revival before the official announcement, has shared his information about Isaac Clarke’s return. Sources familiar with the development told him that EA Motive is targeting the fall of 2022 (fiscal 2023) for the reimagining of the cult action-horror game.

As the report clarified, this is a tentative release window for now, which could well change if something happens to slow down development.

When the publisher was asked to comment on the matter, the EA spokesperson refused to confirm the 2022 window, but noted the company is “glad people are excited for the game.” Grubb in return said the team would share the details about the upcoming Dead Space remake sometime before the end of 2021, presumably at The Game Awards. It may be a new trailer or some kind of extended look at the project.

Earlier, Grubb reported the game will actually be a blend of remake and reboot, and would “feature elements from multiple games.” According to the EA press release, the new Dead Space will give fans “an improved story, characters, gameplay mechanics and more”, which seems to confirm features from several Dead Space titles. What upcoming Dead Space won’t feature are loading screens, which should have a positive impact on the overall immersion, and microtransactions.

While original Dead Space creator Glen Schofield is now working on his new survival horror game The Callisto Protocol, it was revealed that game director on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Eric Baptizat is helming the production of the new Dead Space remake. In addition, EA Motive contracted out some of the original game’s devs, including UX director Dino Ignacio.

Dead Space is being made on the Frostbite engine and is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
