Death Stranding “Extended Edition” Rumored To Be Coming To PS4 And PS5

2019 saw the release of Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding. It was the first game from the legendary Game Director Hideo Kojima and his talented crew since they left Konami, and the first non-Metal Gear Solid project from them in ages as well. It was…different. Yeah, we’ll go with that. While nothing has been said officially about how well the game did, a recent employee resume pointed to be it being “record breaking,” though the connotation on that is unclear. Now a new rumor is floating around that there will be more of this strange world relatively soon.

On the gaming forums ResetERA, insider/leaker Navtra spoke about an upcoming “Extended Edition” of the game coming to both the PS4 and PS5. While not going into specifics, they confirmed that it was a thing, but more interestingly even said there was new story content, casting doubt on an upgrade option for those who currently own it on PS4, saying, “Even if there’s an upgrade path I think it will be paid since there’s new story content in this version.” They made no mention of the PC version that released later, though presumably whatever this material is would also make it to that version.

Navtra has been correct in the past about several leaks, notably the surprise reveal of Final Fantasy 16 near the end of last year. The game’s Technical Director also mentioned that a PS5 version of the game was being looked into not long ago. Even still, as always, take any leaks with a grain of salt. While Kojima is no stranger to re-releases of his titles, with Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 being the biggest examples, but adding new story content would be a new one, and Death Stranding‘s plot largely felt complete by its end. But we’ll see how it all pans out.
