The Super Smash Bros. series has always offered fans a competitive gaming experience. With over 80 different fighters of varying strength, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the newest game in the series, is great for those that want to challenge their friends to some intense matches. Recently, a dentist decided to take it one step further and challenge his patients to competitive matches in the fighting game.
Dr. Tej A. Shah at Zen Family Dental has developed a new way to attract patients to his practice. Not only is Shah a dentist, he apparently is really good at Smash Bros. Ultimate. He is so good in fact that he is willing to take on patients in 1v1 matches with free teeth cleanings on the line for those that beat him.

Dr. Shah established some basic rules for the matches. The 1v1 showdowns include 3 stocks, no items, and no Final Smashes. And while Smash Bros. Ultimate has a large number of stages, only those legal at tournaments are permitted. These rules seem to remove many of the variables from the game helping to ensure that the fights come down to skill. In addition, challengers must register to become patients before competing. Furthermore, Dr. Shah warned his potential opponents that “If you lose, you need to tell the whole world that you lost to a dentist!”
In addition to filming a video for YouTube, the dentist posted the challenge on Reddit as well. Known as DesiOtaku on the platform, he revealed that his favorite fighter is Litttle Mac. He said that he is improving with the DLC fighters Pyra and Mythra as well.
Dr. Shah is no stranger to hosting and competing in Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments. Back in August, Zen Family Dental held a tournament for patients to compete in. One of the prizes in that event included a $250 Amazon gift card for the winner.
While this dentist prepares to take on his patients in 1v1 matches, the developers for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are preparing to release another fighter for the game. In addition to bringing back every character from previous games in the series, Smash Bros. Ultimate includes 11 DLC characters exclusive to the Switch title. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out who the 12th fighter added to the game will be as the DLC fighter pack is expected to release by the end of 2021.
It’s cool to see businesses such as Zen Family Dental incorporate video games into their work. Apparently, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is attracting new patients to the dental practice or else Dr. Shah just really loves playing the game. Either way, it will be interesting to see if anyone can KO the dentist.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch.
