Ascendant chests are just one of the many secrets this planet has, granting currency such as Dark Fragments and Baryon Boughs when opened. There are 30 chests in total, all of which are tied to the Dreaming City curse week. Only 10 can be found each week. For those looking to find all of the Dreaming City's secrets, here is a complete guide for finding this zone's ascendant chests in Destiny 2.
Updated August 7th, 2021, by Charles Burgar: With how many Ascendant Chests are hidden in the Dreaming City, it can be difficult to find the exact path you need to take in order to find some of these chests. We've updated this guide to help with this. Each applicable entry now has an image gallery that gives a rough idea of the path you need to take to reach a certain chest. A table of contents has also been created, allowing you to jump to any specific Ascendant Chest you need. When you're done with one chest, click the "return to table of contents" button to bring yourself back to the top of the guide. Happy hunting!
How Ascendant Chests Work
Before you begin hunting for each of these chests, it's important to note two things:
-
Ascendant chests are tied to the current Dreaming City curse.
- The Dreaming City curse has three states that rotate weekly, meaning there are three sets of Ascendant chests.
-
You can only find Ascendant chests and their hidden paths while you have the "Ascended" buff.
- A Tincture of Queensfoil consumable grants this buff for 30 minutes.
It would be wise to stock up on Tincture of Queensfoils before you start obtaining these chests. Every activity and chest in the Dreaming City has a chance to grant a Tincture of Queensfoil. If you have a large supply of Baryon Boughs, you can also purchase them from the Huginn skull. It can be found in Harbinger's Seclude's lower level.
How Can I Tell Which Curse Week It Is?
Petra Venj's location is the most obvious tell. She will move whenever the curse strength changes, relocating to the following zones:
- Weak Curse: The Strand
- Growing Curse: Divalian Mists
- Strong Curse: Rheasilvia
With this tip, you can determine the current curse week without having to load into the planet; Petra's location on the map will tell you how strong the curse is.

The Bay of Drowned Wishes is Divalian's Mist's Lost Sector. From spawn, turn around and run through the narrow path to reach this zone. Take out any Scorn that charge you, then push up the shore. Near the end of the shore will be two trees atop rocks. Run to the one on the right, turn around, then jump on the ascendant platforms. The chest is at the end of this path.

Head into the Oracle tower, then turn left to exit the building. Follow this path until you reach a path that leads straight to the shore. If you turn around, the area should look similar to the first image in the image gallery above.

Travel to the western edge of this zone, beside the trees (shown in image 1). Some ascendant platforms will appear. Jump on them, then follow the path until you reach a large, circular platform. Turn left, then run towards the two rocks (image 2).
You'll want to jump between these rocks, as there's an ascendant platform between them. Jump around the left rock to find another ascendant platform. At this point, follow the path presented by the ascendant platforms to find the chest overlooking the shore.

We recommend the latter; it's much faster. Regardless of what you do, the chest is sitting atop the building overlooking The Strand.
Aphelion's Rest (Week 1)
Reach the end of the Aphelion's Rest Lost Sector to find this chest. The Lost Sector is located under Petra Venj's location in The Strand in the eastern part of the province. Kill the boss, then climb up the path behind it to find the chest.

In Rheasilvia, travel to the building in the northern part of the zone—the one that leads into Harbinger's Seclude. Right of the entrance will be a cliffside that you can jump onto. Around this cliff will be a short path.
Follow the path shown in the image gallery above. When you reach the eastern part of Rheasilvia, it will look like a dead end. It's not; you need to jump up to reach the top of the rock formation. Image 3 shows when you need to jump up.

After a short walk, you should be in a circular room just before the Oracle Engine. Run near one of the statues to find an ascendant platform (image 1).
