Destiny 2: How to Get Ascendancy Rocket Launcher and What it Does

As customary for each Destiny 2 Season, Season of the Lost came with a brand-new ritual weapon that players can obtain from Zavala, Lord Shaxx, or The Drifter. The weapon is a rocket launcher dealing solar damage, Ascendancy, and Destiny 2 players can acquire it in a different way from any other ritual weapon thus far.

How to Get Ascendancy

For a change, Bungie added Season of the Lost's new ritual weapon directly into the rewards for each of the main vendors in the Tower, rather than having a Legendary quest to be claimed at Banshee-44's. This change is a welcomed one because it allows players to grind whichever activity they like best and still get the ritual weapon, eventually. There is also another change that pairs extremely well with this one, and that's activity Streaks.

Crucible and Gambit used to have Streaks already, but players were considered to be on a Streak (and thus earn extra points when completing the activity) only if they won the match. In Season of the Lost, however, all playlist activities got a Streak that builds up the more gamers play that specific activity, and up to a maximum of five stacks.

This is important because points increase the corresponding vendor's reputation rank, and Streaks increase the number of points gained per activity, thus speeding up the process. For example, players can get 135 points per Strike for the Vanguard with 5 Streaks, but Legend Nightfalls award 261 points with 5 Streaks; also, Crucible players with 5 Streaks gain 230 points from losing a match, meaning victories can be even speedier.

Ascendancy becomes available once players get to rank 16 or more with any of the ritual vendors, so the best way to get it quickly is to grind a single activity. Nightfalls are probably the best one because players can also get Nightfall weapons, Ascendant Shards, and other goodies.

What Ascendancy Does

Ascendancy is a Precision Frame rocket launcher, meaning it will fire a smaller rocket that auto-locks on the target it is aimed at. Because of the way ammo economy works in the game, this is the best archetype for rocket launchers to be relevant.

Ascendancy comes fully Masterworked with a Handling roll, and it also features two perks in both the first and the second columns. The first perk in the first column is Impulse Amplifier, which increases both the speed of the rocket and the gun's reload speed.

The second perk in the first column is Ambitious Assassin, which potentially allows Ascendancy to have two rockets in the magazine after any kill with the weapon.

The first perk in the second column is Explosive Light, which increases the damage and blast radius of a rocket fired after picking up an Orb of Light. After a bit of testing, Explosive Light seems to be dealing pretty much the same damage as Vorpal Weapon, and around seven thousand less damage if compared to Lasting Impression.

The second perk in the second column is Chain Reaction, which is a generally very good perk for add-clearing, but it falls short in the Power slot because of ammo economy and the fact that rocket launchers are often boss weapons.
