In order to combat cheating in Destiny 2 PC, free-to-play (F2P) players will now have to verify their SMS before they can participate in certain activities. According to the Destiny 2 help article on Bungie.net, anyone who has purchased a Destiny 2 Expansion does not need to have SMS verification.
