Destiny 2 Witch Queen Release Date Confirmed in Reveal Trailer

It is a good time to be a Destiny 2 fan, as Bungie has announced loads of information about the game's future. Of these announcements, Bungie revealed the release date of the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, The Witch Queen, in a brand new trailer.

Destiny 2 as a live service game is built on expansions and seasons that last for months at a time, offering limited experiences and rewards for players before being settled as legacy content. To the dismay of Bungie and its employees, the expected newest expansion The Witch Queen was leaked ahead of the livestream, with a listing appearing on the Australian PlayStation Store. The leak featured a description of The Witch Queen, including details about its premise, additional content and features, and the release date. With so little time between the leak and the official reveal, fans did not have to wait very long to know whether the leak was true.

According to The Witch Queen's reveal trailer, the new Destiny 2 expansion is dropping on February 22, 2022. Bungie's Youtube account uploaded multiple versions of the trailer, each with country-specific information. The Australian version of the trailer validates this morning's leak, confirming its February 23, 2022 release date. Until then, fans will have more than enough to do with Destiny 2's Season of the Lost.

In addition to the release date, the reveal trailer offers a cinematic glimpse at the core conflict of The Witch Queen—Savathun and her army of Hive Guardians. Horrifically, the trailer shows three regular guardians traversing through a forest before Savathun appears and demonstrates her corruptive abilities, unleashing a legion of Hive Ghosts who go on to resurrect their fallen Guardians.

Beyond the visuals, Savathun narrates the trailer, posing the question, "Who decides what is true? In this universe of light and dark, there is no greater power," implying both her motivation and her strength. The Witch Queen follows Destiny 2: Beyond Light as the game's next expansion.

Before The Witch Queen, there have been six other campaigns, going back to The Red War that launched with the game back in 2017. Whether or not players have stuck around since the beginning, The Witch Queen is looking to be an exciting time for returning players and newcomers alike, with its combination of a strong narrative focus and a litany of new features.

Furthermore, players who like a challenge can look forward to The Witch Queen's Legendary Mode difficulty, especially if they want to obtain its exclusive rewards.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
