It’s Now Quantic Dream’s Best-Selling Game Ever

Whether or not you like Detroit: Become Human, it can’t be denied that the game has been incredibly successful. As of July 6th, 2021, Detroit: Become Human has sold over 6 million copies around the world, including 1 million on PC alone.

It was also the fifth most-streamed PC game on PlayStation Now in Spring 2021 and is officially award-winning video game studio Quantic Dream’s best-selling game ever, eclipsing the likes of Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Not bad for a game that started out as a simple tech showcase.

Needless to say, Quantic Dream is very happy about this achievement. The studio announced a self-publishing strategy for its upcoming titles all the way back in 2019, and since then, Quantic Dream has also begun publishing video games developed by third-party studios. One example includes Sea of Solitude, a gorgeous but gloomy game about mental health and cute monster girls.

“Despite the sanitary crisis going on, 2020 was a very strong year in terms of growth for our studio,” says Guillaume de Fondaumiere, Co-CEO of Quantic Dream.“Last year, our group demonstrated the relevance of our self-publishing strategy by achieving new record results after taxes of 5.7 million euros. This very beneficial trend is confirmed even more during this first half of 2021, with record sales registered in recent weeks.”

Well, that’s pretty good, but what is Quantic Dream up to now? The answer is simple: it’s now funding the development of Parallel Studio’s next game and co-producing the upcoming third-person, single-player, story-driven, road-tripping action-adventure Dustborn.

Quantic Dream’s vision of video games as a cinematic, interactive medium is certainly inspiring. We hope to see more incredible stories from this studio, ideally of similar scope and technical expertise as Detroit: Become Human. However, it would be nice if future Quantic Dream games were slightly more sensitive about co-opting imagery from the civil rights movement.

Detroit: Become Human is available on PC and PS4.
